United Kingdom Disabled People's Council (UKDPC). New Website http://www.ukdpc.net/ The United Kingdom Disabled People's Council is the UK's democratic representative national organisation, which is a member of the worldwide Disabled People's Movement, through its membership of Disabled Peoples' International. UKDPC was set up in 1981, by disabled people, to promote our full equality and participation in UK society, to strengthen the voice of disabled people in the UK and to ensure justice and rights for all disabled people regardless of impairment. UKDPC passionately believes that the position of disabled people in society is a human and civil rights issue and that society must be changed to allow our full inclusion. We believe that disability arises from society's negative responses to us, inaccessible environments, discrimination and disablism. Disability is not an inevitable consequence of our impairments. Equality is possible and can be achieved through removing the barriers to our social inclusion. Our humanity can be realised and supported through recognition of the social model of disability and celebration of our difference. Please visit our Current Issues section for detailed information on our current areas of activity. Our membership includes grassroots, regional and national disabled people's organisations (DPOs) representing all impairments and from all over the UK. We are currently working with over 300 DPOs nationally. If your organisation would like to become a member of UKDPC, then please get in touch with us.
